PA completed construction documents for pedestrian, bicycle, and streetscape improvements on several streets in the vicinity of the Sigourney Street Station on the CTfastrak busway line. The project is now an important link in the proposed East Coast Greenway. Plans include traffic calming devices, reduction of travel lanes, addition of bike lanes, pedestrian scale lighting and roadway milling and paving along with streetscape amenities such as gateway seating areas, landscaping, and period style site furnishings. The project is funded by the FTA’s Section 5309 Discretionary Bus Livability program administered through the Greater Hartford Transit District. Public support was garnered through neighborhood information meetings, stakeholder meetings and coordination with various City departments and the Connecticut DOT. Construction began April 2016 and was substantially completed in December. Final signalization work concluded in 2017.
